    By 2030, nearly one in two adults will be obese, and nearly one in four will be severely obese.

    New research finds that by 2030, nearly half of American adults — 49.2% to be exact — will be obese. In every single state, no fewer than 35% of adults will have a body mass index of at least 30, the threshold that defines obesity.
    Public health researchers at Harvard and George Washington University made these projections by applying established weight trends to Americans across the lifespan and across the map. To hone in on states’ obesity rates, they combed through existing data and corrected it to account for the fact that people routinely lie to researchers about their weight.
